Salem's Depot Railroad Museum is the stuff of dreams now realized in one of the most modern, up-to-date railroad museums in the Midwest. The Depot transforms great moments of a past era of railroading history into a reality to be remembered and enjoyed by visitors...those who remember they were once kids, and those who have the spark of adventure and intrigue that says they still are. Included in the Depot complex are numerous displays and exhibits featuring thousands of railroading artifacts, an extensive model train layout, library, meeting facility, and the national headquarters of the Monon Society. A fully restored caboose is also a point of interest on the Depot grounds. The Depot is a component of The John Hay Center.
